The Catchment

The Skjern River catchment has been selected because:

1. Deep-lying aquifers may be important for the future supply of drinking water.

2. Geologic investigations have been carried out, which provide a geological platform.

3. The catchment possesses prominent Danish landscape features, i.e. low-lying alluvial plains and undulating glacial deposits.

4. The catchment has a size that allows large-scale remote sensing data to come to their right.

5. The catchment has been subject to significant anthropogenic interferences, e.g. engineering of the stream courses.

6. The sandy soil implies a little water buffer capacity and the catchment is therefore particularly susceptible to climate change.
