PhD Course: Integrated modeling of surface and subsurface flow and transport using HydroGeoSphere

René Therrien
Laval University

  • Theoretical presentation of:
  1. Subsurface water flow and solute transport
  2. Surface water flow and solute transport
  3. Heat transport and freezing and thawing processes
  • Integrated surface and subsurface flow and transport modeling : concepts and numerical formulation
  • Advanced numerical methods used in integrated modeling
  • Data requirement and management; input and output for integrated models
  • Examples of integrated model applications
  • Additional topics related to integrated modeling:
  1. Atmospheric coupling and climate change simulations
  2. Heterogeneous and fractured porous media
  • Hands-on exercises with the HydroGeoSphere model

  • 4 day PhD course
  • Morning is reserved for lectures
  • Afternoon is reserved for hands-on model applications

The number of course participants is limited to 20.

The course is free of charge for PhD students but participants are expected to cover their own travel, food, and accommodation expenses.

We also welcome international PhD students but in case of oversubscription to the course we may give priority to national PhD students.
